Will my transfer cause downtime? (preparing the DNS zone)

What it is

Many customers hesitate to transfer their domain for fear of cutting off their site or emails during the operation. Good news: at 1SWISS1 the transfer happens with no interruption if the DNS zone is prepared in advance, which we do automatically.

How it works

When you order, we collect your current DNS records (your site, your emails: A, MX, SPF records, and so on) and we prepare your zone on our side, still inactive. As long as the nameservers are not switched, your old host keeps answering normally. When the switch happens, our zone, already filled in, takes over with no gap.

Step by step

  1. In the cart, at the domain configuration step, choose 1SWISS1 DNS servers.
  2. Check the suggested records. Use the button to scan your current records, or paste a zone export if you have one.
  3. Add or correct anything missing, then confirm: your zone is prepared.
  4. The rest is automatic: the zone activates at the moment of the switch.

Important

Disable DNSSEC at your current host before the transfer. It is the one element that, if left active, can interrupt resolution during the switch.

Frequently asked questions

How long does propagation take? A nameserver change can take up to 24 to 48 hours to propagate everywhere, but our servers answer correctly from the moment of the switch thanks to the prepared zone.

Could my emails be lost? No, if the zone was prepared: your MX records are carried over identically.

I prefer to keep my DNS elsewhere. Choose Custom DNS servers instead of 1SWISS1 DNS servers: we then leave your DNS untouched.
